Formtek | Orion 5 Foundation Server (Foundation Server) provides the core repository functionality for managing content. Foundation Server allows system administrators to install the core Orion components, including the Orion schema, the Orion service applications, and the Orion administration applications.
Formtek | Orion 5 Access (Access) is a platform-independent, thin client application that provides storage, management, and retrieval of enterprise-wide information via a JavaServer Pages (JSP) Web interface. As the central Orion application, Access uses the rich business logic of the Orion business tier allowing organizations to store, manage, and deploy all types of content accurately and securely while providing a global, distributed repository.
The Formtek | Orion 5 Software Development Kit (SDK) provides software integration tools with a Pure Java API module and a Web Services module. The Pure Java API (API) module is very flexible and intended to be used more generically in creating repository solutions. The API module provides very granular control of the Orion repository through an object-oriented Java interface. The Web Services module provides a Web services interface to Orion functionality and is a natural foundation for building content repository components within a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). Web services are the tool of choice for creating portal and browser-based applications requiring library repository services.
While Access and SDK are the Orion components that hold the business templates and forms, determine the business rules, and manage the versions of documents through their lifecycle, Formtek has also developed Business Application Solutions (BAS) that are designed and pre-packaged to help companies quickly install an Orion-based solution specifically for Engineering Data Management (EDM) and Facilities Document Management (FDM). Formtek also provides a comprehensive set of Product Interfaces and Connectors (PIC) that enable data integration and sharing across applications, tools, and enterprises. Connectors include interfaces to Oracle, Adobe, AutoCAD, SAP, Spicer, Microsoft, and more.
