Enterprise Software: User-Friendly SAP? — It’s Overdue

Long-time users of SAP are well aware that the term ‘user friendly’ and SAP are seldom used in the same sentence.  SAP has made a bundle with its tight-lipped no-nonsense business software.  But SAP ‘transaction screens’ and screen identifiers are often reminiscent of the days of the IBM 3270 green terminals.  New-comers to the SAP world are often frustrated as if caught in a timewarp by the terse and complex screens.

But SAP has been trying to change its image.  And they have recently introduced a natural language search engine in order to aid business intelligence. That’s one improvement.   And SAP newer applications are looking a bit more like applications created in this century.  For example, SAP has also released two new applications related to risk and compliance: SAP BusinessObjects Risk Management and SAP BusinessObjects Process Control.

Narina Sippy, SAP BusinessObjects Vice President, said that “the enhancements we announced today allow customers to clearly see where they are most vulnerable to risk and where they need to bolster controls to mitigate that risk. With the continuous monitoring and transparency SAP provides, companies can respond quickly to new business threats and help comply more efficiently with new regulations.”
