Enterprise Security: A Booming Market

With the backdrop of stories about cybercrime growing at somewhere near 100% annually, and problems like denial of Service, phishing, DNS attacks, and identify theft becoming common occurrences, companies are very slowly realizing the importance of cyber security for their business.

Gartner is estimating that the Enterprise security market grew by 20 percent in 2007. Ruggero Contu, principal research analyst at Gartner said that “compliance, data leakage and privacy issues, along with the need to tackle the fast evolving and sophisticated threat environment, are among the major drivers fueling the growth of spending on security.”

Companies are investing in tools like email security boundary appliances, an area that grew 45 percent in 2007. Most companies investing are in the US and Europe which together hold a combined 79 percent world market share, although sales in places like Latin America are growing at 40 percent.
