Gartner’s outlined the top 10 Disruptive Technologies as part of their Symposium ITXpo 2007 on Emerging Trends held in Barcelona in Early May, as reported in IT Pro.
Gartner’s breadth of coverage of 84 different research groups gives them a unique world perspective of developing technology trends. After reviewing all of their research, they’ve managed to condense their thoughts into a list of ten technology trends they see as most likely to significantly impact and change both IT and people’s lives over the next five years.
Here is Gartner’s List:
- Multicore processors
- Web Platforms
- User Interface
- Web Mashups
- Social Software
- Tera-Achitecture
- Power and Green IT
- NVWs
- Video Semantics
Garther’s symposium tries to brief CIO-type company officers of technology trends to prepare them for upcoming changes and emerging technologies that could likely have a major impact on their company, their customers, and their partners.
Not everything on Gartner’s list is of the untested cutting-edge variety. Some things like multi-core computer processors are already here, but Gartner sees the technology as having significant continuing impact. Other’s like ‘Second Life’ have made quite an impact on consumers, and are being actively explored by many companies for commercial possibilities, but its potential is still not that well understood.
